I was struck by a tweet this weekend from John Piper. In it, he wrote:
“I know that when I come to you I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.” Romans 15:29
What a wonderful flag to wave—a prayer to pray—over all our arrivals!
Before you speak, before you email, or post online— pray: May my coming bring this blessing.
A Beautiful Thought and Challenge
Oh that this would be true for each of us!
When people engage us in word, through media, or in person, may we be there in the fullness of the blessings of Christ.
What are some of those blessings?
- As a new creation (2 Cor 5:17)
- As one with hope for change (Col 3:9-11)
- As one who brings comfort (1 Thess 4:18)
- As one who can and will speak truthfully (Eph 4:25)
- As one who uses his efforts to bless others (Eph 4:28)
- As one who builds up instead of tearing down (Eph 4:29-30)
- As one who is kind, deeply caring, and full of grace (Eph 4:31-32)
- As one who loves sacrificially (Eph 5:1-2)
- As one brings light in righteousness (Eph 5:6-14)
- As one who brings wisdom, walking in the Spirit (Eph 5:15-21)
- As one secure in the future (1 John 5:13)
- As a loved person, secure in Christ (Rom 8:37-39)
Friends, I have only begun to scratch the surface of what could be said or written!
Do you get a small glimpse of what it means to engage one who comes in the fullness of the blessing of Christ?
Paul Wanted to Serve as Christ
As Paul, do you think you could make it your prayer and desire to serve others in word and deed as Christ?
Is it possible that you would go forth today as Christ?
