Plain of Bethsaida from northwest

Jesus cares for us and His care motivates Him to act on our behalf. As you begin your day and week today, this is worth both contemplating and resting in.

Now the back story.

Jesus Used His Miraculous Power with People

Jesus used his miraculous power to heal diseases, help the lame walk, the blind see, the mute speak, and deaf hear. He had even raised multiple individuals back to life. Jesus used His power to help people while He authenticated the kingdom message. But that wasn’t all.

Jesus went away with His disciples to a deserted place called Bethsaida to rest. However, the crowds flocked to Him there. Thousands of them. On final count – 5,000 men plus women and children. It is nearing supper time and the disciples told Jesus to send them away to find food and lodging. They were miles away from Capernaum and other places large enough to get provisions.

Jesus’ response: you all feed them.

Now they did not know what to do. They scoured the crowd and only came up with five loaves and two fish. What were they supposed to do with that?

Jesus asked them to have everyone sit in groups of fifty. Here’s the text:

16 Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 So they all ate and were filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them. (Luke 9:16-17)

Incredible.

Jesus’ Care and Compassion

Notice what happened: Jesus used His power to not do the “big” thing – like heal someone of a life-changing infirmity; but instead, He used His power to provide supper.

Please do not miss the simplicity of this. We can not only trust Jesus for the “big” issues in our lives, but also for the simplest ones like our food. Jesus used His power to simply provide a meal. What an incredible lesson for us to learn. Jesus does the “big” things; He also provides the “little” things.

Every day. All day. Every need. No matter the size.

May this thought bless your day and week.
