Have you ever wondered if you had enough faith to do what God asks you to do in a particular situation? You learn what God wants, think through a particular circumstance, than wonder if you have faith that works. Does your faith work?

Jesus Helps His Disciples – Luke 17:1-10

Jesus’ disciples learned every day and arguably in every conversation with Jesus. As helpful as the Bible is, can you imagine if we actually enjoyed walking with Jesus as the disciples? It would be incredible.

On this particular day, Jesus challenges his disciples to be careful with sin. He warned them that they may become stumbling blocks for others, and additionally, how serious of a problem that actually was. Further, He explained to them they needed to forgive others – as many times as seven times seven in just one day.

Upon hearing this, the disciples exclaimed, “Oh Lord, increase our faith!”

The Disciples Sound Like Us at Times

The disciples sound a lot like us at times, don’t they?

As we read in the Bible what God wants from us and seek to apply it to a particular situation, we may walk away with the same exclamation of our hearts, “Oh Lord, Increase my faith!”

Thankfully, Jesus gave the disciples a great explanation of faith which also serves to help us.

Faith that Works

Jesus responded, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you” (Luke 17:6).

Notice what Jesus teaches here. The mustard seed was the smallest seed of which the disciples would have any kind of working knowledge. Jesus basically says, if you have just that much faith, it would be mighty enough to uproot this massive tree with an incredible root system and replant it in the Mediterranean Sea.

What’s Jesus saying? He is explaining that it is not the quantity of faith that you have, but just simply that you have faith.

Any faith is enough to do everything that God has asked you to do in the Bible in a particular situation. In other words, my friend, you have enough faith right now to do whatever God wants from you. You already possess faith that works.

If you have a relationship with Jesus, that’s enough faith.

Whatever you face today and this week, you have a mighty faith to be able to do what God calls you to do.

How exciting is that? Let’s just live up to our potential in Christ this week then.
