Spring. Have you noticed that there are a few buds popping out here and there? As the temperature changes, trees, flowers, and various bushes are budding.

Spring Is a Reminder

Spring reminds us of the changing seasons. I love the greens, yellows, and various hews of burgundy that begin to take shape in the spring. We have a dozen or so trees that we have planted on our property. As spring nears, those trees begin to turn in color even before we see the first bud. As soon as I notice it, I point it out to whomever is close so that they, too, can celebrate the soon arrival of spring.

Seasons change. Sometimes we hate to see them change. I know of many who detest the transition to winter. Cold, colorless winter can bring the doldrums to many. But, just as we sometimes do not enjoy the change, there are times that we do, like from winter to spring.

As this season changes, we are reminded of new life. The budding process helps us recall in a fresh way new life both around us in the physical world and, ultimately, in the spiritual world. We rejoice in this.

God Controls the Seasons

During seasonal change, I am reminded of Ecclesiastes. Recall what Solomon wrote:

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven: (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

From here, Solomon reminds us that, in God’s plan, all the seasons have a specific spot. He reports that they are all fitting in their time.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God. (Eccl 3:11-13)

How do we respond to the changing seasons?

First, we rejoice in God’s good and purposeful plan. He controls the seasons both around us in our physical world and in our spiritual world.

Second, we do good in whatever season it is. We strive to live for God’s glory even in the midst of the changing seasons.

Enjoy the budding!
