My Heart Trusts in God!

On a Monday like this one, I think of this truth. I need to hear these words tonight. Evil. Tragedy. Fear. Sometimes, it is necessary to speak truth to my own heart in the midst of dire circumstances. I need to remind myself, “My heart trusts in God!”

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.” (Psalms‬ ‭28‬:‭7‬)

King David confessed his dependence on God. In urgency, David cries out to the Lord. The wicked encroach around him. As they do, he calls upon God for help and mercy.

In good times and bad, David found strength in God’s power and presence, hope in God’s promises, and courage in God’s provision and protection. The Lord was both his personal strength when his own strength failed and a shield against fear, doubt, and those who sought his life.[1]

As in his typical fashion (i.e., an individual lament), David turns his heart away from his problems toward God’s help. He understands how God strengthens, protects, and helps him.

What about a day like today? What about when your pressures seem so great? This is when we need to preach truth to our own heart.

“God is our strength.”

“God is our shield.”

“When we trust Him, He faithfully helps.”

“My heart can rejoice in God’s faithfulness, love, protection, and help.”

God certainly deserves our praise!

On a day like today and this week, let’s all rejoice in the help that comes from God, our strength and our shield.
