One Captivating Thought about New Years

As I contemplated the dawn of a new year, one thought about new years captivated me. That could be because I’m blonde with limited capacity or just the simple fact that this thought is so captivating, my mind could drift no further in thought. Here it is: for the Christ follower, what people enjoy most in a new year, we get every day of the year.

What do people enjoy most about a new year?

I think most people enjoy the sense of all things new in the new year. New beginnings, new opportunities, a new clean slate, new motivation to do what you want to do, and on and on I could go. With the new year comes all the benefits of turning over a new leaf. What was true last year, does not have to be true this year. Those things that summed up my life last year, do not have to sum up my life this year. Everything is new.

For the Christ follower, what people enjoy most in a new year, we get every day of the year.

Guess what, fellow Christ-follower, what you love most in a new year, we get every day of the year. In Christ, all things are new. Consider these:

  • Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness (Lam 3:22-23).
  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Cor 5:17).
  • Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life (Rom 6:4).

Every day is a new day in Christ. Every day brings all the promises of renewal that are often found in the idea of a new year.

Let’s consider this paragraph again – this time in relationship to Christ and what we forget is true about being in Christ:

I think most people enjoy the sense of all things new in the new year Christ. Every day new beginnings, new opportunities, a new clean slate, new motivation to do what you want to do, and on and on I could go. With the new year being in Christ comes all the benefits of turning over a new leaf. What was true last year yesterday, does not have to be true this year today. Those things that summed up my life last year yesterday, do not have to sum up my life this year today. Everything is new in Christ.

Now, my fellow Christ-followers, this is truly worth celebrating and remembering.
